Hey Tink,

Performance wise, it is quite terrible on safari and seems to run well on chrome.

Comparing the Flash version and the javascript, the Flash version both looks better and performs better, at least for now.

Graphical operations are most of the time better in Flash, especially when they are built-in, and the one thing that is really missing in javascript (especially in this example) is the very good flash smoothing. Really sorely missed in everything I do in javascript.

Do you guys get the same performance as the Flash example? I also get a better quality image on the Flash version. I'm testing in Chrome on a new MacBook Air.

Yes it could. I don't know if it "should" work this way, but it could. That's the difference between a library and an experiment, I didn't think about all these things, I just made them working ;)

Feel free to use and amend so it behaves how you like!

But good point, thanks for that!

Awesome!!!
together with blending modes (http://media.chikuyonok.ru/canvas-blending)
we are on our way to a full blown photoshop 8 fully on web :D filters and everything
awesome work
one thing though, why does the filter has to get canvas elms? can't it get pictures and them just draw them to canvas via drawImage?

Hi Romuald, Amazing tool and thanks for sharing it!

I have some issues with the Global setting.

Although I have installed the latest Flex SDK 4.6, I receive the following error message:

Unable to compile: Some Flex SDK folders are missing. Your current SDK is probably missing the flash player version you are targetting. Please download the last Flex SDK from the Adobe website.

Do you have any solutions for this error?

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Guys,

Firstly thanks for the post as it's really helpful and people like me definitely appreciate the time that people like you put into helping the community :)

Secondly I have a simliar bug but it's quite quirky and I thought I'd share it on here just in case it ever happens to anyone else:

Bug with Firefox + Mac + Flash + Javascript + document.onmouseup

Scenario:
Client has a webpage that has an embedded flash movie communicating with javascript through externalinterface class
and also the javascript has a document.onmouseup event listener which in turn triggers a possible pop-up, when the flash movie is clicked. (Quirky way of doing things... I know... ).

Bug:
When the flash/swf movie is clicked, the document.onmouseup event in javascript picks up the event and opens a popup window in all browsers EXCEPT for Firefox on a Mac Machine (It works on Safari and Chrome on the Mac and all browsers on a windows machine).

Workaround:
Don't use a document.onmouseup event, instead write a function that gets called from the externalinterface communication in javascript...

I know the workaround is kind of an obvious one, but up until then I assumed it was a flash specific problem...
If even this helps one person out there then this post will have been worth it.

OK I see. Thanks for your answer.
What I expect when I set the padding of a container is that its childs won't use this space.
To me there should be a way to specify a global padding for a container so thats contained elements can fill all space minus that global padding avoiding to change left, right, top and bottom values for every elements in the container.
In fact having to set top and left value to zero to specify an element should fill the container is not intuitive to me.
I would prefer a more common system like in Android layouts where you specify either WRAP_CONTENT or FILL_PARENT for an element width and height.
Anyway thanks for your time and for sharing you approach on this matter !

I see, it is not that the padding is not respected. It is that the properties of the hbox (left, right, top, bottom) prevails.
So you can set these previous padding values to be the left, right, top and bottom value of the hbox.
Not sure it is good or bad, but that's how it works right now.

Yes that's what I've played with.
What I did :
- Create a VBox
- Set its size to 500x500
- Set its padding to 20,20,20,20
- Create a HBox in VBox (padding are respected)
- Set the HBox to fill the width of VBox by checking top left and top right checkboxes (but maybe that's not the way to go)
Vbox left and right padding is not respected anymore.

Hi,

Great work that looks promising !

After playing a while with the demo some things look confusing to me.
For exemple if is set a padding to a container it stops working if I set the contained element to fill.
I mean in this case there is no more padding?

Same answer for the rotation, I would have a try with the rect property, or handling it manually in a handler.

Hi,
great job here :). In the previous version of your layout manager they are a property on ElementUI : useInitialSize.
In my case I got a "layout = new HBoxUI(this);" witch contain children with a masked picture.
How can I say to my layout: "don't use the whole width of the children" ?
Sorry for my poor english :)

Hello

I'm using baseUI v4 Hbox for a control bar of a video player and need to have a few buttons on the left and some on the right with a variable spacer between the two sides.
I have a flex background and it's my first full AS3 project (without flex SDK). With flex,I'll try to make something like this :

Can I do that with baseUI V4?
I see a Spacer class in the V3. Should I downgrade to this version to achieve this?

Thanks and sorry for my poor english

I am currently working with betting BaseUI working as a simple layout engine for components in an application -- I have a window class that resizes itself based on the size of its contents (defined as the "pane" for the window). If I use the VBoxUI as the pane, I have to refresh() the vbox and then also set its width and height to its "real" width and height in order for it to report the width and height appropriately to my window class. (otherwise the width and height are the static width and height set when declaring the new vbox)

Is there a better way to do this out of the box? Or, if not, have others requested a convenience method for doing this, or even for setting the width and height to the contents size on refresh? (maybe in this case one might pass Number.NaN to the constructor to indicate a width or height that is automagically set when calling refresh()).

Other than that, works great so far -- I was using the Yahoo Astra classes for this kind of layout before, but it was much clunkier...

Hi, posted this in V3 but thought I'd bring it up here as I've implemented this in a large framework only to suddenly find it breaks when used with rotation.

Rotating an object and assigning left/right etc will deform it completely, any pointers on how to fix this without me spending many hours testing each aspect?

Thanks :)

Hi,

Rotation seems to break it completely, I am trying to use it with senoculars transform tool everything works fine but if I rotate the object then base ui deforms the transformation.

There is a problem with updateInstance(). You throw the previous Singleton._instance away. Put this in front of Main() function to see that you lose old values:

	Singleton.getInstance().initializeMyValue();
	trace("after = ", Singleton.getInstance().myValueNotInitialized);
	trace("after (1) = ", SingletonExtended.getInstance().myValueNotInitialized + " >>> from SingletonExtended");
	trace("after (2) = ", Singleton.getInstance().myValueNotInitialized + " >>> from Singleton");

If your using Flex 4.5.1, you can include the mobilecomponents.swc (i think its called) and use the scrolling that you would see on an iPhone or Android phone....

I have a demo here: http://bbishop.org/blog/?p=502
may provide some inspiration

Click the phone image to launch, and click the submit button, it tween scrolls just like on a phone
